Digital Literacy Snapshot
Liu Jinxingqi
I found the process of creating this video was both fascinating and challenging. It reflects the storyteller's unique personality, frequently used social media styles, and cultural traits. This was my first time sharing my social media journey through a video format. Previously, my social media content was mainly shared as images. During the video production process, I realized that videos convey much more than just content or text itself. Through some elements such as tone of voice, sound effects, and background music, a video showcases the storyteller's social media style, personal growth, and cultural influences. My digital literacy journey focuses on the evolution of my relationship with Chinese social media platforms. Since I spent most of my time in China, I am more familiar with the evolution of Chinese social media platforms. Therefore, my storytelling habits, editing style, choice of background music inevitably carry characteristics of popular Chinese media culture right now. I also noticed that the style of video production often aligns with the platforms we frequently browse, each of which has its own distinct norms. For example, in my video, I mentioned the currently trending, the Rednote platform. Videos on it often focus on sharing life experiences, with creators using light music, simple narratives, and minimalist aesthetics to convey a sense of fashion, relaxation, and refined simplicity. While TikTok is dominated by creators making comedic content, often using funny sound effects to enhance the humor. Since I often watch Rednote videos as a way to unwind, I found myself subconsciously mimicking this style in my own video, including the narration approach, background music, and subtitle design. Overall, this video production experience was entirely new for me. It served as an excellent way to share my experiences and document daily life while highlighting the storyteller's individual social media style and cultural background. It also fosters communication and interaction between different cultural groups. I hope to share more aspects of my daily life through videos on my social media accounts later on.
Hi Liu!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your reflection as much as I did watching your video! It's amazing how much thought and personality you have put into both, and your hard work shows! While I have heard of many of the mentioned apps, I haven't used ones like WeChat or RedNote yet. Thank you for such an engaging watch, it made me want to try some of these out for myself soon!
