Digital Literacy Snapshot - Katie Alexander

Reflection:

Creating this video was an interesting experience. I reflected on my digital literacy journey and highlighted the major occurrences and websites that influenced me during my growth, providing a brief description of each. In terms of the physical creation, it took longer than I had initially anticipated, but it was fun to do. I had planned to have it done in under two hours, but it ended up taking three hours due to some software complications with my older laptop. I have not edited any videos for a few years now, and revisiting it, even if only briefly and in a very simple way, reminded me of why I used to enjoy it. This mini assignment has inspired me to revisit this old hobby in the future and encouraged me to improve my editing skills, something I had wanted to do years ago. For this video, I used Prezi for the content and edited it on iMovie. I added the music and cropped the screen recording of my presentation for a better viewing experience. Video creation and editing could have been its own section in my digital literacy journey that I completely forgot about until after making this presentation. I also learned that the overall experience was not as hard as I had remembered it being when I was younger, and it makes me want to learn more about better software.

  1. Hi Katie! I really appreciated how you focused not just on your digital platforms, but also on the process of making the video itself. Your reflection on struggling with editing at first and then gradually getting back into it felt very honest and relatable. I especially liked how you framed video creation as part of your digital literacy journey, not just a technical task. It made me think more about how learning (or relearning) tools like editing software shapes the way we tell stories online. Your post shows how digital literacy is something that keeps evolving rather than something we ever fully “finish.”

  2. Hi Katie, this was such an interesting journey to watch! Certain things brought me back down memory lane as well. In making my own slideshow, online web games were something that completely skipped my mind. As I played my fair share of Club Penguin, but also an absurd amount of Moshi Monsters.I really enjoyed how you laid out your presentation as well, it all flows very nicely.
